Food Safety Training
Monongalia County Health Department’s, Health Promotion Services offers three levels of food safety training: Food Manager’s, Person in Charge (PIC) and Food Worker’s Training. You may review the training schedules below or call the 24/7 Training Information Hotline: 304-598-6702.
Food Establishment Manager's Training
The Monongalia County Board of Health requires each permitted food establishment facility in MonongaliaCounty to employ and maintain employment of a trained food establishment manager.
A facility representative must attend and pass the Monongalia County Food Establishment Manager’s Training Course. This is a two-day course meeting Monday and Tuesday of select months, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. Food Worker’s cards valid for three years will be issued. Participants must pass a test in order to receive a certificate, which must be posted in each facility.You may request your manual after payment is received or download Food Code Guides SF-7A thru SF-7E from the following Web site as study materials: www.wvdhhr.org/phs/food/index.asp.
The registration fee is $125 per person, with training materials provided. Payment must be made to guarantee placement since class size is limited and classes may be cancelled due to lack of participation. You may download the registration form below. Food Establishment Person In Charge
The Food Code requires that a PIC is present at all times within every food establishment. The Person in Charge or PIC course is designed to provide the base knowledge as required in accordance with the 1999 FDA Food Code adopted by West Virginia. Registration fee is $30 per person with materials provided.
Participants will receive a one year Food Worker's card and must complete a quiz/worksheet to receive their PIC card. Food Worker's Training
Food Worker's Training is the second Tuesdayof the month, except holidays, with classes at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. - Photo ID is required
Classes are 1 hour and 30 minutes with registration/payment 15 minutes prior to class. You must arrive at least 10 minutes prior to class to register and pay, as seating is limited to the first 100 participants. We accept cash, debit/credit cards, money orders and business checks. We do not accept personal checks.
Cost of the training is $10 per year to obtain the one-year food workers card. You must present a current one-year card to obtain a two-year card for $20 or a three-year card for $30.
Offsite courses are available for groups of 25 or more on a fee for service basis, typically $125 per session plus $10 per person for the one year card. Please contact Terri Berton at 304-598-5138.

Temporary Food Workers Training
Temporary Food Worker's Training Every Wednesday (except for Holidays) 9 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. Cost is $1 for every week issued to expire the day of the next scheduled Food Worker's Class. Acceptable payment includes cash, money order or debit card.
Candidates must study informational sheets (available below) and then complete a 10 question worksheet.
