The mission of the Monongalia County Health Department is to achieve a healthy community by protecting and promoting public health through education, training, community awareness provision of health services and advocacy.


Public Health Planning and Development

Public Health Planning and Development Services provides programs that increase public awareness about health issues; investigates, tracks and minimizes the occurrence/spread of disease; and supports other public health programs by enhancing the capabilities of the Monongalia County Health Department. Service Areas include: Disease Surveillance and Disease Control, Health Promotion, Smoke Free Initiative of West Virginia and All-Hazards Response.

All Hazards Emergency Preparedness And Response
All-Hazards Response provides for a public health response to any nuclear, biological or chemical warfare attack or any natural disaster.
Disease Surveillance & Disease Control
The Epidemiology program assists counties in surveillance of communicable diseases, outbreak investigations, infrastructure capacity, and educational endeavors.
The Smoke Free Initiative Of West Virginia
The Smoke-Free Initiative of West Virginia (Smoke-Free WV) advocate and promotes smoke-free workplace regulations.
Monongalia County Clean Indoor Air
The Monongalia County Board of Health passed a clean indoor air regulation in January of 1992 and the regulation was amended in April of 1999.
