The Mission of Environmental Health is to help protect the health of the citizens of Monongalia County by regulating the food, water, and public spaces of Monongalia County and by providing public health education to the citizens of Monongalia County and to the facilities that we regulate.

What We Do
Environmental Health Inspects over 1200 facilities in Monongalia County including:
In addition to facility inspections, Environmental Health also conducts compliance visits, consultations, staff education, and responds to citizen complaints for the above permitted facilities.
Environmental Health also performs field work and oversees the following programs:
In addition, Environmental Health provides food safety training, Certified Pool Operator training, Radon Testing, and public health education.
- Food & Retail Establishments, Mobile Food Units (also known as food trucks), Vending Machines, Farmer's Markets, and Temporary Food Establishments
- Swimming Pools, Hot Tubs, and Bathing Beaches
- Hotels, Motels, and Bed & Breakfasts
- Tattoo Studios and Body Piercing Studios, including Temporary Tattoo and Body Piercing Studios
- Manufactured Housing Communities (also known as mobile home parks)
- Day Cares and Schools
- Campgrounds, Organized Camps (also known as summer camps), Parks, Playgrounds, and Emergency Shelters.
- Tanning Facilities
- Sewage Removal Trucks
In addition to facility inspections, Environmental Health also conducts compliance visits, consultations, staff education, and responds to citizen complaints for the above permitted facilities.
Environmental Health also performs field work and oversees the following programs:
- Permitting and inspection of on-site sewage systems and permitting of private water wells
- Enforcement of the Monongalia County Clean Indoor Air (no smoking) Regulation
- Rabies Surveillance (animal bites) and Vector Control (trash, mosquito, and rodent complaints)
- Environmental Health also investigates (but does not regulate) mold complaints and other health issues in rental housing.
In addition, Environmental Health provides food safety training, Certified Pool Operator training, Radon Testing, and public health education.
