Monongalia County Health Department offers three levels of food safety training: Food Manager Certification, Person-in-charge training and food worker training.

Food Worker's Training is usually the second Tuesday of the month, except holidays, with classes at 10 am and 2 pm. A 6 pm classe will be offered every other month as follows: February, April, June, August, October and December. A 3:30 pm Food Worker 's session will be offered the fourth Tuesday during the months of January, March, May, July, September and November.
Class length is about 90 minutes. Registration begins 30 minutes prior to class. It's best to arrive early because seating and parking can be limited. Late arrivals are not admitted. A Photo ID is required for registration. The training costs $10 per year. First time attendees are only eligible for a one-year food worker card. Cards can renewed for two years ($20) or three years ($30.) Proof of a current card is required to renew for longer than 1 year. Offsite Food Worker Training Many employers and organizations ensure their workers comply with training requirements by sponsoring an onsite food worker course. MCHD is pleased to offer this service for groups of 25 or more. The cost is typically $175 plus card fees. Please contact Terri Berton at 304-598-5138 to schedule a course. |

Online Food Workers Training
MCHD is pleased to offer online food worker training provided by StateFoodSafety.com. The course costs $20. It takes about two hours to complete and you must pass a test at the end.
StateFoodSafety is only online food service worker course we accept. Please be sure to take the Monongalia County course.
Course registration will ask for the name and address of the facility or volunteer organization you work for, so it will be helpful to have that information available before you start. If you are not employed or not volunteering, please put N/A in those fields. |

Temporary Food Workers Training
We offer Temporary Food Worker Cards every week day (except for Holidays) from 9 to 11 am and 2 to 3 pm. Candidates must study informational sheets (available below) and then complete a ten question worksheet.
Temporary cards cost $1 for each week issued. All cards expire the day of the next scheduled Food Worker's Class. Temporary card holders are expected to attend that class.

Food Manager's Certification
The Monongalia County Board of Health requires all food establishments to maintain employment of a person who has successfully completed the Monongalia County Food Establishment Manager’s Training Course. The course is two days in length, meeting from 9 am to 4:30 pm each day. Pre-registration with payment of $125 per person is required at least one week prior to the session. Food Establishment Manager's Test
Well-qualified candidates may attempt to test out of the Manager's Training Course. The test consists of true/false and multiple choice questions. A score at least 80 percent is required. Testing begins at 9 am and end promptly at 12 pm. Registration begins 15 minutes prior to testing times. The cost is $50; an optional study manual can be purchased for $25. |

Person In Charge Training
The 2005 FDA Food Code requires a qualified person-in-charge (PIC) to be present at all times within every food establishment. We offer a course designed to teach the base knowledge required to comply with that requirement. The Monongalia County Board of Health now requires the PIC to complete our PIC or Manager's Training course. Participants will receive a free one year Food Worker's card along with a PIC certificate upon completion of the course assessment. Class size is limited to 40 participants. Pre-registration with payment of $35 per person is required at least one week prior to the session. Online Person In Charge Training
Our online PIC training is available with a course fee of $50. You will have 30 days to complete the course once you create your account. It takes about four hours start to finish AND you must pass a test at the end. Please have the name and address of your food service facility available for the registration and completion process.
