One aspect of children’s health that is often overlooked is their first dental visit. The American Dental Association recommends that a child’s first dental visit be within 6 months of having their first tooth or by the child’s first birthday. This visit is very important for several reasons. Your child’s teeth will be cleaned by one of our hygienists and then examined by Dr. Carrier to make sure there are no problems, and if there is we will come up with a plan to address the problem. We will show you how to take care of your child’s teeth, discuss some harmful habits to avoid, and recommend oral health products to use at home. Some parents are reluctant to take their child to a dentist at this age because they feel that their child won’t cooperate for the appointment. However, it is important for your child to have a “dental home” and become comfortable with our entire dental team.
The bottom line is that every patient has the capability to keep their teeth for a lifetime. This goal begins with the eruption of a child’s very first tooth. If you have a child that is approaching their 1st birthday, please call our office to schedule this very important appointment!
