Ladies, listen up! May is Women's Health Month and we at Monongalia County Health Department are here to remind you of the importance of taking care of yourself.

Whether you're 18 or 80, your health matters and it's crucial to prioritize it. That's why MCHD offers a wide range of services that are specifically designed to support women's health needs.

At MCHD, we've got you covered. We provide reproductive services like pregnancy testing, birth control and free STI testing and treatment. We also offer complete gynecology exams, Pap tests and mammogram referrals. Our nurses are professional, friendly and Safe Zone-trained, so you’ll feel as comfortable as possible even when you’re talking about the uncomfortable.

Let's be real, going to the doctor isn't always fun — but it's necessary. Regular check-ups are essential for detecting potential health issues early on and for preventing serious health issues from developing. That's why we encourage all women to take advantage of our services and to prioritize their reproductive health.

Now, let's talk about the elephant in the room: the Pap test. We know it's not the most comfortable experience, but it's important. A Pap test can detect signs of cervical cancer before it even develops.

Once I reached my 20s, all my friends seemed to be going to their gynecologists regularly, while I avoided even thinking about it. It even got to the point where I didn’t want to go to my primary care provider at all, just because I thought she’d say those words: “It’s time for a Pap smear.”

At the urging of some of the other women in my life, I finally made an appointment. My doctor talked me through everything that would happen, and a few minutes later, it was over. My results were available within a week, and I felt grateful that I finally had that peace of mind. That’s what MCHD aims to do: Give you a comfortable experience and peace of mind.

That’s also why our family planning services are here for you. Whether you're considering the pill, an IUD or another form of birth control, our nurses can help you make an informed decision that's right for you. Click here to see a list of all of our birth control options.

And if you are ready to take that step to start a family, we will be right by your side to help with immunizations for when your little one is here. And don’t forget all the great resources available at our WIC program, like breastfeeding support and nutrition counseling, for families and individuals who qualify.

Monongalia County Health Department is also home to MCHD Dentistry, a booming dental office with updated digital equipment, same-day crowns and even Botox and fillers. We take dental insurance, Medicaid and we also have a new patient special for individuals without either of those.

We know women's health can be a sensitive topic, but it's important to prioritize it. Whether it's getting a Pap test, starting a new contraceptive method or needing dental work, we're here to support you every step of the way. So go ahead and make that appointment by calling 304-598-5119 for MCHD Clinical Services and 304-598-5108 for MCHD Dentistry — your health is worth it!
