What is WIC?

Picture
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) has been improving the health of women, infants and children for 40 years.  The Program provides quality nutrition and breastfeeding counseling and education; as well as health monitoring and nutritious foods.

WIC is a short-term intervention program designed to improve lifetime nutrition and health behaviors for everyone in your family.  Families receive free supplemental foods to meet their immediate nutritional needs while learning how to choose healthy foods that provide the necessary nutrients for each person’s diet.

The WIC Immunization Coordination Effort (WIC-ICE) Program offers free immunizations for eligible children up to five years of age.  The Monongalia County Health Department WIC Program serves Doddridge, Harrison, Marion, Monongalia, Preston and Taylor Counties. You can call WIC at 1-800-675-5181 or in Monongalia County at 304-598-5181.

How Can WIC Help My Family?
Picture
WIC provides nutrition, health education and other services, free of charge, to pregnant women, mothers, infants and children up to the age of five.  WIC teaches moms what to eat while pregnant or breastfeeding and what to feed their growing children.

We know budgets are tight.  WIC provides you with healthy foods to help you save on groceries so you have more to spend on other things your family needs.  With all the services we offer, WIC can improve the health of your entire family.
