Vaccines are for adults too!

Just because you are an adult doesn’t mean you are done getting your shots. Besides your yearly flu shot, it is recommended that all adults get a Tdap vaccine every 10 years. This will not only protect you from diseases such as tetanus and diphtheria, but also young loved ones from pertussis (whooping cough). With age and lifestyle some other vaccines may be needed. This includes the shingles vaccines for those 50 and older, pneumonia for those 65 and older, as well as HPV through age 26. To learn more about what vaccines you may need, visit the CDC.
WORRIED ABOUT HEPATITIS?
Monongalia County Health Department provides free initial screening tests for hepatitis C. If your test is positive, we will provide doctor referrals for further treatment.
It is recommended that all people born between 1945-1965 get tested for hepatitis C. There are other risk factors that also can be considered when deciding whether or not to get tested.
West Virginia is currently experiencing an outbreak of hepatitis A, and hepatitis B is also on the rise. There are vaccines to prevent both Hep A and Hep B. To make an appointment for a hepatitis vaccine, call MCHD Clinical Services at 304-598-5119.
